Territorial integration and governance in urban areas

Dear Sir / Madam,

On the 10th of October 2012, during the Open Days event in Brussels, EMI and the European Commission’s Directorate-General for Regional Policy will co-organise a workshop on territorial integration and governance in urban areas. We hereby invite you to register for this Open Days workshop.
Note! please be aware that the registration for Open Days workshops is already open. The European Commission follows a ‘first-come first-serve’ policy. Therefore, please register as soon as possible via the Open Days-website.
The Open Days, 10th European week of Regions and Cities, are organised by the Committee of the Regions and the European Commission’s Directorate-General for Regional Policy. The event provides a platform for networking, capacity-building and exchange of experiences between local and regional representatives.

Who should attend?

Cities and regions face major challenges when trying to obtain potential benefit from territorial integration. This joint EMI – DG Regio workshop is interesting for representatives from European cities in general, and particularly for cities operating in larger metropolitan areas.

Why attend?
Dr. Evert Meijers, senior researcher at the Delft University of Technology and EMI’s project leader on Polycentric Metropolitan Areas will discuss principles on how policy-makers and politicians can foster further territorial integration of urban areas. He will also present the results of EMI’s Knowledge and Research agenda on ‘Polycentric Metropolitan Areas’.

Guest speakers: Mats Helander from the Regionförbundet Östsam (Linköping, Sweden), Iván Tosics from the Metropolitan Research Institute (Budapest, Hungary) and Dawid Kostempsi, Chairman of the Metropolitan Association of Upper Silesia.
