The Mission of Humanities Universities in Eastern and Central Europe: Between Training and Bildung

The European Humanities University (EHU) will host an international academic conference in Vilnius to discuss whether higher education institutions in Central and Eastern Europe should focus on training future employees or on developing well-rounded, critically-thinking individuals.

The conference, which will take place June 6-7, 2012, is titled “The Mission of Humanities Universities in Eastern and Central Europe: Between Training and Bildung”. Scholars and guests will discuss whether the traditional liberal arts model is compatible with modern realities.

The conference is one of the key events commemorating the 20th anniversary of EHU's founding.
University faculty, experts, and social and political leaders are encouraged to submit their proposals for presentations during the conference by the end of March 2012. Presentations can cover a range of topics, such as the challenges of the Bologna Process for national university policy; integrative university education; evidence based research, and many others. A full list of topics and application requirements can be found on the website http://conferences.ehu.lt/index.php/humanities/2012 .
